5 Reasons why Ski Chalets are the ideal Romantic Getaway

What do you think of when someone says “Romantic getaway”. Your mind instantly wanders to being wined and dined in Paris. Or a week spent sipping cocktails on a beach, with a cabana boy seeing to your every need. But what if I was to say “spending a week up a mountain?” More specifically, in your own private chalet while skiing.

Well, that is what me and my girlfriend did. We decided to break with tradition and book a romantic ski holiday in Austria with Crystal ski. Needless to say, we loved every moment of it. It was just the kindling the embers of our relationship needed. It got us to thinking. Why don’t more people do this? We had no answer. The only thing that we could come up with is that not enough people know it is an option.

So in the spirit of goodwill, here are 5 reasons why ski chalets are the ideal romantic getaway:

1. The Fire

Have you ever seen those postcards of couples drinking wine in front of an open fire? They look really romantic don’t they? But, how many times have you actually done it? Well, if you have a romantic stay at a ski chalet then the answer is every night. Sitting by the fire, sharing a glass of vino really is as intimate as it can get.

2. Less Stress

As much as a romantic city break is great, navigating your way around all the sights can be very stressful. In fact, one or two arguments can be had on which bus or line to take. Thankfully, having a romantic getaway in a ski chalet doesn’t pose that problem. Ski resorts aren’t that hard to navigate. And even if you are having problems, then you have your friendly and helpful host to refer to.

3. Cosiness

Comfort is everything in a romantic getaway. Having a place that you can relax and unwind together outside the four walls of your bedroom is essential. Chalets are perfect for this. A couch, a blanket and the two of you. That is about as intimate as it gets, wouldn’t you say?

4. The Views

Chalets have the luxury of either being; close to the mountain or slightly out of resort. The benefit? Exceptional views. They say that seventy five percent of feeling romantic is location. And there is nothing more romantic than waking up in the morning and seeing the fresh mist come off a mountain. It definitely made me more amorous.

5. Board Games

I know what you’re thinking, “why board games?” But when you look back on a holiday with your partner, it’s the little moments that define it. The moments of silliness that can only come from being comfortable in each other presence. And argue all you want, but try spending the evening with the other half working your way through old board games without it being one of the best nights of the getaway. Having fun is just as important as any grand gesture. And there is nothing more fun than watching your partners face drop when she lands on a snake.

So there you are. Five reasons why staying in a ski chalet is the ideal romantic getaway. All of the above help to contribute to one big reason; it is more intimate. It is escapism at its purest form with the perfect balance between activities and alone time. So, next time you’re looking for a romantic getaway head straight towards the mountain.

  1. Great post. I love going on ski trips with my boyfriend. I completely agree with your points of why it is a great thing to do. It also helps that there are usually nice restaurants or hot tubs to end the day with!
