The Sea Life of French Polynesia in Photos

We were amazed by the number and variety of colourful sea life in Bora Bora while we were snorkeling.  Most of them had no fear of us and would swim right up to us.  They seemed just as curious about us as we were about them.

These little guys were a little shy and they would hide in the coral as we swam by.

These fishes would just stare at you as you swam near them.  They had no fear of you.

The parrot fish was Tracy’s favourite looking fish, unfortunately, they were also delicious!

Our tour guide found the octopus for us to see and touch on our snorkeling trip!

The Whitebanded Triggerfish are very protective of their territory.  If you enter their area, they will charge at you, however, they are not completely gutsy, as they will cower when you don’t run away from them.

These butterflyfish were our little buddies in Bora Bora.  As soon as we entered the water, they were right there with us.

They were looking for food, so we had to oblige…

The most amazing of creatures in the lagoon of Bora Bora were the Sting Ray and the Black Tip Reef Shark.  Both are so majestic as they swim.

  1. Wow, great shots! What kind of underwater camera are you using?

I love all the fish and the octopus is very cool! We saw an octopus in the Red Sea at Aqaba. Amazing snorkeling there with walls of coral like I’ve never seen before.

    • We are glad that you enjoyed our photos, Jennifer. We actually borrowed the camera from a co-worker and I think it was a Panasonic Lumix underwater camera. That is so cool that you got to see an octopus while you were at the Red Sea. We always feel so fortunate to see native animals in a city/country we are visiting.
