Top 5 Famous Landmarks we have seen

The places on this list will appear on many other favourite or top lists, but we thought we would make our own little list of those world famous sights that we have been lucky enough to visit and share the story of our experience.

Flying into Bora Bora, French Polynesia

We had the opportunity to live out one of our number one dream vacations when we flew to French Polynesia for 10 nights on the islands of Moorea and Bora Bora.  We began our trip on Moorea and we loved our time there, but the truly amazing experience began when we took off on our flight to Bora Bora.  We had been told we would love the view of the island, but we did not truly understand how spectacular it was until that flight.  Because of our knowledge, we wanted to make sure we got seats with the best view on the landing.  We asked the flight attendant which side to sit on for the best view that day (it was open seating) and found our seats.  We were not disappointed with the views one bit, even though it had been built up so much, in fact it was better than we could ever have expected!  Bora Bora is an island surrounded by a lagoon and a set of islands they call motus and a coral reef that create an appearance seen in very few places in the world.

Standing in front of the Pyramids of Giza

To see the Pyramids of Giza was one dream destination we honestly thought we would never get to see.  We grew up learning about the great pyramid in school and longed to be able to see it with our own eyes.  However, our families were not extensive world travellers and we could not foresee us getting out to see the world either.  Not to mention it was in a culturally different part of the world that we did not truly understand, nor were we experienced enough travellers until recently to have the confidence to visit a place so different from our home.  As we travelled more and more and got to see different parts of the world (mostly in Europe) we gained some of the confidence travelling we had previously lacked.  An increase in confidence and a great deal of planning allowed us to live our dream and stand at the base of the great Pyramid of Giza in awe!  It was a once in a lifetime feeling to be standing there looking at something you never thought would be anything but a dream to you.  The pyramids are quite the engineering marvel in itself, so the experience of seeing the pyramids is pretty awesome too!

Going up the Eiffel Tower

It was very early on in our travels that we got to see the Eiffel Tower.  Like many other tourists, it had always been our dream to see Paris, France.  Add this to the fact this was our first trip oversees and you have two giddy tourists.  We saw many awesome historic structures that trip, but the Eiffel Tower sticks out as a true gem.  Maybe it was so early on in the trip that we were still so excited to be traveling in Europe or maybe it was we love Paris so much, but we think it was our favourite.  Yes, this is a very touristy area and it is the cliché thing to do in Paris, but we don’t apologize for loving touristy things and we love the Eiffel Tower.  It is such a cool structure and they do a great job of making it an attraction, including lighting it up at night.  We do recommend you go up the tower (even with the line ups), as you get a wonderful view over Paris and this is one of the best designed cities in Europe.

Helicopter Tour to a live volcano in Hawaii

There are very few places in the world where you can see a live volcano spewing lava, but one of those places is in Hawaii, USA on the big island of Hawaii.  Kilauea Volcano has been erupting for many years and we the chance to visit the island on our honeymoon.  We decided that, since it was a special occasion, we would take a helicopter tour out to Kilauea to see the active volcano.  The tour departed out of Hilo and few for a two hour journey.  We were able to get a birdseye view over eruption sites and see the effect they had on the vegetation and towns on the side of the volcano.  We proceed to fly over the active lava flows where we could clearly see the orange hot lava flowing into the ocean and were flown over the active crater.  It was an unreal experience and gives you a true appreciation of mother nature!

Touring Berlin

There are many, many historic cities throughout Europe and other parts of the world.  We have visited many of them and we enjoyed learning about the history in all of them.  However, the rich history of Berlin, Germany seemed to be more enthralling than any of the others.  Perhaps it is because a large portion of the history in Berlin is more recent than other cities or because there is many buildings from different centuries because of all the turmoil, but we loved the historic walking tour we got to take through Berlin.  We could have spent a lot more time in Berlin, particularly on that tour just trying to take in all the history!

Germany - Berlin Wall

Those are some spectacular places we have been so fortunate to visit.  If you are provided with the opportunity to see any of these five places, we highly recommend you take it!  We would go back to any of these places in a heartbeat to relive these amazing experiences!
