What are Luxury Tents? We got to find out!

We were lucky enough to visit Safari West in Santa Rosa, California.  Our experience included going on a safari tourand staying in Safari West’s “luxury tents.”  We checked in at the park on Thursday and were loaded up in a Jeep and driven to our tent.  It was even better than we could have ever expected!!!

As we approached the tents, they looked like an extra large tent you would see anywhere you might go camping raised up on a stilt platform.

We were immediately struck by the view we had from our large patio that overlooked the giraffe and antelope pen.  This patio came complete with a patio table, four chairs and an umbrella and we spent quite a bit of our free time watching the animals from the deck.  How cool is that…you get a taste of the Safari Experience right from the tents.

And it only got better from there!

Inside, the tent is like a fancy hotel room, except for the canvas walls.  Entering the main tent room we couldn’t help but stare at the luxurious mahogany floors, beautiful king size bed and the rustic wood furniture.  It looked as nice as any of the fanciest hotels we have stayed in!

The shelves and walls are decorated with great African art that really sets the tone for the experience.  The room contains big open mesh windows with views out over the grounds in three directions.  These windows are a great way to keep the tent cool during the hot summer days, but close up nicely for the chilly evenings.

The bathroom was quite nice, especially when you consider IT IS IN A TENT (no matter how fancy it is).  It had high quality counter tops and hardware.  Okay, so it’s not EXACTLY like an authentic Africa safari, but it is absolutely awesome accommodations.

We decided to include the Safari West BBQ experience (at extra cost) as part of our time at the park. We were glad we did as they serve a delicious meal, which started with appetizers of chicken wings, fruit, and salads.  The main meal offered up some BBQ chicken and/or ribs as well as green salad, pasta and vegetable dishes.  Of course it was finished off with a little dessert (brownies for us).  We truly enjoyed the meal a lot and probably over indulged because it was SO GOOD! To finish up the day, we headed back to our tent and enjoyed the evening while listening to the sounds of some of the animals in the dark (although you can expect quite a sound from the crickets as well).  It does cool down a fair bit at night in the tents, but they have heaters and heated blankets that work great to keep everyone nice and cozy!  In the morning they have a nice continental breakfast for the overnight guests that capped off a great experience!

A special thank you to Safari West for hosting us during our time in Santa Rosa, California!

What do you think of these tents (would you stay here)?  What’s the most unique accommodations you have stayed in?

  1. Glamping – we luv it! Here in our Canadian province of B.C., we’ve stayed at two resorts with fabulous permanent tents: Rockwater Secret Cove Resort on the Sunshine Coast and Clayoquot Wilderness Resort on the wild west coast.

    • We are from B.C. too, specifically, Vancouver! Where are you guys from in B.C.? We were totally unaware that there were resorts in our province that had permanent tents as well. Thank you for letting us know! Now we really want to check out those two resorts that are basically in our backyard! 🙂

  2. The tents look amazing – a little more comfortable than the two-person tent I used on the weekend only disover it had a few spots that were less than waterproof.
